The polish region of Szczecin and the german regions Uecker-Randow and Uckermark are in close proximity. Yet the urban-rural divide and the language gap making it hard for interested and innovative actors on both sites to get aware of – and in touch with – each other.
Goal:
Identifying innovative actors in the border region, making them visible and connecting them to facilitate mutual exchange and to create synergies.
Target Groups:
Innovative actors in different areas of business, technology and culture, as well as municipalities and public institutions that have an interest in cross-cultural exchange.
Challenge definition:
How can we initiate and sustain a cross-border polish-german innovation network?

There is a lack of flexible housing (concepts) in rural areas that fit to different stages of life. Therefore rural citizens often need to migrate for adequate housing.
Goal:
No one has to move away from home. More offers will be available for renting homes in rural areas.

Everyone! – Especially elderly, singles, couples , patchwork families and others!
Challenge definition:
How can we diversify housing concepts in rural areas to keep and attract citizens no matter what stage of life they are in?

Problem description:
Szczecin and Berlin are both becoming increasingly crowded and expensive, and people increasingly want to be able to both live in the countryside and retain their urban base (workation, co-working, flexi- work from rural idylls etc.).
How can locations in the rural hinterland between these cities be developed so that they appeal to these urban elites, while at the same time maintaining their authenticity?
Goal:
To develop a range of proposals capable of increasing the attractiveness of rural locations to the Szczecin and Berlin markets
Target Groups:
Metro actors
• startups, NGOs, larger companies, clubs and associations, academic and cultural institutions
• Rural locations
• manor houses, seminar hotels, coworking spaces, etc.
• Infrastructure providers • Internet, mobile, road, rail, bus
• Media

How can rural locations between Szczecin and Berlin be best helped to appeal to these metropolitan markets while at the same time maintaining their authenticity?.

Goal:
Map the leisure landscape to increase cross border tourism for one day or weekend trips.
Target Groups:
21+, parents with kids, millennials
Challenge definition:
How can we promote outdoor leisure activities in the polish-german cross-border region and increase cross border tourism?

Existing solutions or ideas: Utilizing google maps, social media, hash tags, online tourism guides, trip advisor etc.

A harmonious and liberal living together.
Target Groups:
Especially newcomers who want to set up a new business which depends on public reputation like shops, restaurants, touristic accommodation or cultural places.
Challenge definition:
It’s not so easy for a city resident to find a place in the rual society. Finally a lot of projects stranded because of this. So the questions are:
• How do newcomers become accepted
• How can conflicts be avoided at an early stage
• How can we deal with the differences between locals and newcomers
Existing Solutions or Ideas to the challenge:
There will be no solution but different ways to improve the situation:
• awareness of cultural differences in contrast to romantic ideas
• the locals are not waiting for you
• cooperate with the „chiefs“
• one hand washes the other. Who will give, who will get.
• the politics of little steps, be humble and patient
• ignore envy, at least don’t increase it
